Cornwall Negroni
- 1.5 oz London Dry gin
- 1/2 oz sweet vermouth (Cocchi di Torino)
- 1/2 oz Campari
- 1/2 oz Punt e Mes
- 1 dash orange bitters
Stir with ice and strain over a two inch ice cube in an unchilled rocks glass. Garnish with an orange twist.
We discovered the Cornwall Negroni in an online video by The Educated Barfly. It is only a slight variation on the classic Negroni but a variation that makes a big difference. The vermouth and Campari are reduced a little and Punt e Mes is added. The Punt e Mes adds an earthy depth to the drink sufficient to distinguish it among Negroni variations. We also follow The Barfly's lead in using Cocchi di Torino for the vermouth which contributes a hint of vanilla.
The drink was created by Phil Ward of Death & Co. fame, New York in 2006 after attending a cocktail workshop in Cornwall-on-Hudson.
