Ginger Basil Gimlet
- 2 oz gin
- 3/4 oz ginger syrup (Liber & Co.)
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- fresh basil (about 10 small leaves)
Gently muddle the basil leaves in a little ginger syrup and lime juice. Add the other ingredients, shake with ice and double strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a sprig of basil.
We discovered this cocktail at Cucina Venti a local Italian Restaurant. At the restaurant they make their own house ginger syrup but we found Liber & Co. Fiery Ginger Syrup available online at Amazon. This is a lot stronger than the ginger syrup from the restaurant but we love it. You don't notice it at first but it comes in with a really strong ginger aftertaste. Surprisingly the minty herbal note from the basil does not get lost in the strong ginger flavor and the basil gives the drink an intense green color.
